Mallory Gilbert is perhaps Canada’s best-known arts administrator and an undisputed leader of the Toronto arts management scene. Mallory, who began her career as a stage manager, joined Tarragon Theatrein 1972 and served as General Manager for an astonishing 28 years from 1978-2006.
A leader in arts advocacy, Mallory was a founder and active member of the board of PACT for over 20 years and was its President from 1989-1993. Mallory has volunteered as a board member for many arts organizations, including TAPA, The Theatre Centre, Artscape, and STAFand was one of the founders of Creative Trust in 1998, for which she is currently serves as the President.
Mallory shares her vast experience now by working with arts organizations as a consultant. She has received many awards in recognition of her achievements and contributions to Canadian theatre and in 2006, Tarragon Theatre and PACT jointly created an annual award in her honour – The Mallory Gilbert Leadership Award. She was made a Member of the Order of Canada in 2007.
