Hundreds of artists, cultural professionals, arts supporters, community builders and business leaders gathered on October 8th to celebrate the 2010 Toronto Arts Foundation Awards, presented at the fifth annual Mayor’s Arts Awards Lunch hosted by Mayor David Miller with emcee Jian Ghomeshi.

Congratulations to award winners Manifesto Community Projects (Arts for Youth Award), Jamie Travis (RBC Emerging Artist Award), BMO Financial Group (Toronto Arts & Business Award), José Ortega (Roy Thomson Hall Award of Recgonition) & Mallory Gilbert (William Kilbourn Award for the Celebration of Toronto's Cultural Life)!

Highlights of the 2010 Lunch included the parade into the lunch lead by the Samba Kidz (Drum Artz), the reading by Eric Peterson of the poem created by Priscila Uppal dedicated to Mayor David Miller, and the wonderful performance by Molly Johnson.

“A city is created and defined by its people. Our artists allow us to connect and communicate with one another and to forge bonds between our cultures and neighbourhoods,” stated Mayor Miller in his welcome message. “By telling each other's stories and creating a welcoming environment for newcomers the arts contribute to a city which both celebrates cultural diversity and engenders social cohesion.“

“This awards lunch is a celebration of Toronto’s vibrant and ever-changing cultural scene and the people whose creative talents help make this a dynamic and liveable city,” said Claire Hopkinson, Executive Director of Toronto Arts Foundation. “I’m both inspired and humbled by the talent and commitment of the people and organizations being recognized today.”

Seated with invited guests including nominees, past winners, and important arts and city leaders, sponsors play a significant role in making this event a success. The vibrant art scene in this city wouldn’t be possible without the incredible support of our business partners. The Mayor’s Arts Awards Lunch is a unique opportunity for artists and arts supporters to celebrate together.
