(July 1, 2010 - September 28, 2010)

This year in Toronto, Culture Days runs from September 24th through September 26th. All are invited to participate.

Culture Days is a collaborative pan-Canadian volunteer movement to raise the awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of all Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities. A national Steering Committee, together with provincial committees (known as Provincial Task Forces) are self-mobilizing at the grassroots level to implement concurrent annual province-wide public participation events each September beginning in 2010.

The annual, concurrent Culture Days events across Canada will feature free, hands-on, interactive activities that invite the public to participate “behind the scenes,” to discover the world of artists, creators, historians, architects, curators, and designers in their community.

Culture Days is a significant opportunity for both audience development and increased visibility for artists and arts organizations. This awareness campaign will provide a strong voice advocating the value of arts and culture in Toronto, along with hundreds of cities and communities right across the nation.

Anything is possible during Culture Days – anything that brings creators and the public closer together. Visitors to a theatre are invited to attend a dress rehearsal; a professional songwriter pens, composes, arranges and records a song with a class of students; the crew of a television studio offers a guided tour; a glassblower shares the warmth of his workplace; a museum opens up its restoration workshop to the public; a nighttime tour encourages people to look at their neighbourhood architecture in a whole new light; engravers open the doors of their studios to reveal the secrets of their art; a playwright holds a performance in a laundromat.
