Toronto Arts Foundation Board of Directors is comprised of a minimum of nine directors.
Individuals on the Board serve in a voluntary capacity and receive no remuneration for their service as members of the Board. Board positions are held by persons who have a demonstrated interest in and service to the arts as well as special expertise in legal, financial and other pertinent areas. The Board of Directors is the final decision-making body of Toronto Arts Foundation.
Chair: Susan Crocker
Susan Crocker is a board director and advisor in the Toronto cultural and international development communities. She sits on the Board of the Institute for Contemporary Culture (ICC) at the Royal Ontario Museum, and is a recent trustee of the Museum. She serves as Chair of the Advisory Board of the Coady International Institute and is a Governor of St. Francis Xavier University, where the Coady Institute is based. She is a past Chair of the Canadian Stage Company, and Past Chair and Board member of the Board of Management of St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts. Ms. Crocker’s career highlights include CEO of Hospitals of Ontario Pension Plan, senior executive positions at The Toronto Stock Exchange, Partner with Ernst and Young Management Consulting, and executive roles with CIBC in New York and Toronto. She has previously served on the Boards of Suncor Energy Inc., Brascan Financial Corporation, RioCan Real Estate Investment Trust, Toronto Community Foundation, Art Gallery of Ontario Foundation and the Canadian Stroke Network.
Secretary: Cindy Wan
Cindy Wan, Secretary is a lawyer and partner at McMillan LLP. Her focus of practice is securities, with emphasis on investment funds (public and private) and alternative investment products. Cindy writes and speaks in her field and has a list of publishing credits. She regularly provides advice on general corporate and regulatory matters, particularly in the area of privacy law and compliance.
Treasurer: Randy Levine
Randal Levine, Treasurer is a Chartered Accountant with over 25 years of finance and management experience. Randy has held a variety of senior financial management positions and is currently the CFO of Vector Aerospace, a TSX listed company. He has experience in all aspects of treasury and finance. He has served on a number of Boards including not-for-profit and charitable organizations.
David A. Angelo
David is the Director, Client Markets of Deloitte & Touche LLP, one of Canada’s leading professional services firms. He is currently or has sat on the boards of the Toronto School for Arts, the Fort York Food Bank, MOCCA, and the Canadian Aerospace Council. He is also on the Advisory Committee for the University of Toronto/Sheridan College. He received his MSCF in Economics (Forestry) from the University of Toronto.
Curtis Barlow
Curtis Barlow has held leadership positions in the arts and government throughout his career. Past positions include Deputy Secretary (Policy, Program and Protocol) to the Governor General of Canada, Director of the International Arts Promotion program at the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), CEO of the Confederation Centre of the Arts in Charlottetown, Cultural Counsellor in both London and Washington with DFAIT, and Executive Director of the Professional Association of Canadian Theatres. Curtis Barlow is presently the Executive Director of the Fort york Foundation, a charitable organization mandated to provide support for the maintenance and enhancement of Fort York National Historic Site.
Jill Black
Jill Black is a former partner of the Boston Consulting Group, a global management consulting firm, where she spent over sixteen years providing strategic advice to major business corporations. In 2002 Jill founded J.E. Black & Company Ltd. to provide assistance to not-for-profit organizations as well as businesses of all sizes. Jill also applies her project leadership skills to help multi-stakeholder groups address complex public policy issues. Her public policy work included helping set up and create the agenda for the Toronto City Summit Alliance (now CivicAction) as its first Executive Director. As a volunteer, she has assisted several major performing arts organizations in developing and implementing strategies for growing their audiences. She is currently on the Board of the Canadian Stage Company on which she serves as Vice Chair and Chair of the Strategy Committee.
Harold Chmara
Harold Chmara is an experienced financial executive with over 25 years experience in a public company environment. His most recent focus is tax technology, tax process improvement, risk and governance. He previously moved through a series of progressive roles at Deloitte’s Business Tax Consulting group, Hudson’s Bay Company, last as Vice-President Tax and Risk Management. His areas of expertise are tax technology solutions, financial reporting, strategic planning, risk and insurance, acquisitions and disposals, tax, and pensions. He has served on the boards of Tapestry New Opera, Hudson’s Bay Charitable Foundation, and served as Director of Hudson’s Bay History Foundation. Mr. Chmara is acknowledged for his successful leadership of multiple teams of professionals working with complex issues.
Randy Dalton
Randy Dalton, President of Dalton, oversees building developments with an emphasis on alternative approaches and sustainability. Randy has been with Dalton for nearly 25 years, after learning the business from his father. Randy’s developments include the Young Centre for Performing Arts, the National Ballet of Canada, and the recent transformation of the former Wychwood TTC Streetcar Repair Barns into the Artscape Wychwood Barns. Randy is the former president of the University Club of Toronto, an avid skier and a member of Craigleith Ski Club. He is also a volunteer with the Canadian Cancer Society and a strong supporter of Princess Margaret Hospital.
Gerald George
Gerald George is the President of The George Partnership International, a global design and planning firm. Specializing in strategic planning and branding, Gerald also consults on retail, environmental and architectural design. His clients include Apple, Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, CIBC, Luminato, Four Seasons Hotels & Resorts, TD Bank Financial Group, The Distillery District and the Toronto Arts Council.
Linda R. Lewis
Linda R. Lewis is Professor Emeritus, Ryerson University. Over her 40 years of working at Ryerson, she lectured in design, art history and film theory. She was Chair of the School of Fashion and Director of the Film Studies program. She has written extensively about design and has been recognized by the community for her design advocacy. She was the founding president of the Design Exchange and remains involved with that organization as a member of the Collection Committee. In May 2009, she was appointed a leader of the National Design Policy Committee. This initiative, led by Design Exchange in partnership with associations, universities and organizations across Canada, seeks to establish a formal design policy at the federal government level.
Micheline A. McKay
Micheline McKay founded her consulting practice, Micheline McKay + Associates (www.michelinemckay.ca) and The Arts Advocate Report in 1993 to respond to the increased need for the engagement of cultural and not-for-profit organizations in public policy. She brings over 25 years experience in the public, cultural and not-for-profit sectors. Prior to 1993, Micheline was responsible for provincial government relations at TVOntario and was an Economist at Ontario's Ministry of Treasury and Economics, and a researcher at the Ontario Legislature.
Don Moffat
Don Moffat FRAIC RCA, is Past President of the Toronto Arts Council, an architect and Principal of CannonDesign, an international architectural Firm. He has been involved extensively as a volunteer in the cultural and business communities. He is a former vice chair and member of the Hamilton Public Arts Commission, Past Chairman of the former Etobicoke Municipal Arts Commission and currently a Board member of the Toronto Arts Foundation. He is a Past President and former Director of the Hamilton Chamber of Commerce and former member of the Toronto Board of Trade Economic Development Committee.
Janice Price
Janice was appointed the first CEO of Toronto’s Luminato Festival in 2006, after four and a half years as President and CEO of The Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia. Prior to that, she worked at New York’s Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts; the Stratford Festival; and a variety of Toronto arts organizations, including the Hummingbird Centre for the Performing Arts, Roy Thomson Hall and Massey Hall. Janice is also a member of the City of Toronto War of 1812 Bicentennial Commemoration Steering Committee and the provincial steering committee for Culture Days 2011.
Karen Tisch
Karen Tisch, President Long-time arts manager and programmer, Karen's past positions include Executive Director of Ashkenaz Foundation, Managing Director of the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival, Grants Officer at the Canada Council for the Arts and the Toronto Arts Council, Programming Director of the Images Festival of Independent Film and Video and President of A Space Gallery. She has worked as a film programmer and critic (radio). She currently runs an independent arts consultancy practice and serves as Chair of the Toronto Book Awards Committee. Karen is a graduate of the National Ballet School of Canada and the Ontario College of Art and Design.
